Inspire Empathy

We encourage openness and use storytelling to create awareness of different perspectives.

Using Storytelling to Enhance Connection

The Big IDEA is a company-wide storytelling and conversation series where team members share candid, compelling and personal stories to encourage empathy across our Snap team members.

After five seasons of sharing stories on individual identities and experiences, last year we engaged with team members in the Big IDEA on Intersectionality - exploring what it means to bring all of what makes you unique to Snap. The episode featured Snap team members sharing what it’s like to grow up in a different culture, come from a background of blended ethnicities, and navigate the workplace as a parent or with a disability. Participants shared how they feel they can show up authentically at Snap, how all of their unique experiences allow them to have a deeper understanding of clients and the broader world that we build products for, and increased empathy for team members and Snapchatters alike. To further enhance the conversation and create deeper connections, we also created a one-of-a-kind board game so that team members across all of our locations could recreate the conversation in person and learn more about each other in a fun and engaging way.

We also believe that creativity and smart decision making starts with leaders who operate with openness, humility, and actively create a sense of belonging for team members, which led to the next episode of the Big IDEA on Inclusive Leadership. This episode highlighted leaders (and ERG Exec Sponsors) at Snap sharing why inclusivity and belonging matters to them, what it means to create a culture of inclusion on their teams, and how creating community can enhance innovation.

Authentic Representation

To build products that are innovative and fully inclusive, we encourage authenticity in our content, creators, and communities.

Research on the importance and impact of authentic representation

In 2024, the Snap Research and Insights team commissioned a study, conducted by Collage, to gather insights on the relevancy of authentic representation for Multicultural Snapchatters 1. One of the findings in the study showed that representation in Ads matter to Multicultural Snapchatters. 71% of Multicultural daily Snapchatters indicated they want brands to authentically represent people from diverse backgrounds in Ads, and 64% noted they prefer brands that partner with diverse content creators.

The study also highlighted that Multicultural Snapchatters see Snapchat as a place to express themselves and connect with friends, family and creators with 79% saying that Snapchat is a platform that allows them to express their true selves.

Spectacles in the Community

Ensuring that everyone has access to engage with the future of Snap.

Introducing Spectacles to diverse communities

Snap launched the fifth generation of Spectacles in 2024, our new see-through, standalone AR glasses that enable you to use Lenses and experience the world in new ways. After the launch, the new Spectacles were featured at the Grace Hopper Celebration, which is the largest tech conference for women and nonbinary people, and Afrotech Conference, the largest tech conference for Black professionals. At Afrotech, for example, Spectacles’ team members and AR developers came together to facilitate over 300 demos! Through these experiences, we were able to introduce our newest technologies at some of the world's largest tech conferences and help ensure that everyone has access to engage with the future of SnapAR.
